COMPATIBILLITY
Bang & Oufsen - 100% standardized B&O Powerlink signal
Powerlink signals of connected B&O sources simply were looped through. All remaining audio signals by devices of other manufacturers – it doesn’t matter if digital or analogue – are converted into 100% standardized B&O Powerlink signals, including the trigger voltage appropriate for B&O speakers.
Apple Airplay
What about the music on your iPhone? Wouldn’t you like to play it via your B&O speakers and move freely in the room – without annoying docking stations and remote controls? All you need is an Apple Airport Express and our almando Powerlink-Switch. Your simply start playing the music on your iPhone or iPad and listen to it via your B&O speakers. Your B&O hi-fi unit doesn’t even notice – you even don’t have to switch it on. By the way, you also can use the Airplay function when you use a Sonos Connect instead of an Apple Airport Express – in case of further additional possibilities (internet radio, music services like Spotify, etc.)
Sonos Multiroom
Extend your Bang & Olufson hi-fi unit with a Sonos Comect and enjoy an endless selection of songs and radio stations from all over the world. Of course you can continue playing your CDs on your B&O sound system as usual. You either can connect the Sonos Connect to the digital input with an optical cable or analogue with a RCA cable to our Powerlink-Switch. In doing so, you supply your home with a first class and easy to operate multi room system - without setting aside your precious B&O system. In each zone (room) of your Sonos Multiroom system you can either play a different kind of music or exactly the same music absolutely synchronously using the party mode.
APPLICATIONS FOR THE POWERLINK-SWITCH
Integration of various devices of other manufacturers in B&O systems
You want to play the music of your Sonos Connect and the sound of your new Loewe, Samsung, Sharp, Panasonic or Sony television via the speakers of your Bang & Olufson sound system? At best you don’t have to switch it on intricately with your remote control beforehand?
Simply connect all devices to your Powerlink-Switch – it takes care of switching on the Beolab speakers completely automatically for you as soon as it recognizes an audio signal from the B&O system or another device.
The Powerlink-Switch as converter – connect the Bang & Olufsen Beolab speakers to devices of other manufacturers, also without a B&O system.
Our almando Multiplay possesses intelligent signal detection and is capable of converting all audio signals into a standardized Powerlink signal. So you can enjoy the excellent sound of high-quality Bang & Olufsen Beolab speakers even when you don’t have a B&O audio system and a B&O television.
Operating B&O devices without Masterlink on the same Beolab speakers by Bang & Olufsen
The latest devices by Bang & Olufsen don’t have a Masterlink connection anymore. These include e.g. Beovision 11, Beovision 12, Beoplay V1, Beosound 5 Encore, Playmaker, etc. For you it means that you would have to buy for every of those new B&O devices also appropriate B&O speakers additionally. This makes not only your room needlessly full, but your purse needlessly empty. With our almando Powerlink-Switch two B&O devices – it doesn’t matter if old (with Masterlink) or new (without Masterlink) – can share the same speaker. Thanks to the intelligent priority circuit you always listen to the current active source automatically.
Screen and sound lip-sync when TV devices are connected to B&O systems which only can reproduce the sound with time shift – e.g. Beosound 5
If you connect any kind of television as external source to your AUX input – e.g. your Beosoud 5 -, you have the problem that screen and sound of your television program isn’t lip-sync. The reason hereby is that inside the Beosound 5 the audio signal has to be converted from analogue into digital and afterwards back again. Simply connect both devices to the Powerlink-Switch and you can do without the (unnecessary) conversion of the audio signal – screen and sound remain lip-sync.Another advantage is that in addition to your television you don’t have to switch on your B&O system. Only your TV remote control is necessary – great, isn’t it?
CONNECTING THE B&O SPEAKERS TO THE OUTPUT OF THE POWERLINK-SWITCH
What kind of speakers can be connected?
You can connect all active Beolab speakers by Bang & Olufsen which have a Powerlink connection (8-pin DIN plug). These include:
- Beolab 1
- Beolab 2
- Beolab 3
- Beolab 4 – Attention: not the PC model (Beolab 4 PC)
- Beolab 5
- Beolab 7-1 / 7-2 / 7-4 / 7-6
- Beolab 9
- Beolab 10
- Beolab 11
- Beolab 2500
- Beolab 3000 / 4500 / 5000
- Beolab 4000
- Beolab 6000 / 6002
- Beolab 8000 / 8002
- Beolab Penta
The more recent Beolab speakers have the Powerlink connection in the form of RJ45 sockets (network sockets). For this there are special adaptor cables from Powerlink to RJ45, so those speakers can also be connected to the output of the Multiplay:
- Beolab 12-1 / 12-2 / 12-3
- Beolab 14
- Beolab 15 / 16
- Beolab 17
- Beolab 18
- Beolab 19
- Beolab 20
- Beolab 50
- Beolab 90
Which speakers CANNOT be connected?
No Masterlink speakers by Bang & Olufsen can be connected.
These include:
- Beolab 2000
- Beolab 3500
- LCS 9000
The Multiplay has only one output – how you can connect several speakers all the same:
A Powerlink signal always contains both stereo signals, so both the left, but also the right channel. Therefore you always connect both speakers to the output of the Powerlink-Switch and select at the speaker via the option switch if it should play the left or the right channel.
The wiring can either be looped through from one speaker to the next (one after another like a chain of lights) or alternatively can be led separately to both speakers via a Y-adapter center-fed from the output.
Instead of a Y-adapter you can connect a subwoofer additionally like e.g. the Beolab 2 (or Beolab 11) to the output of the Powerlink-Switch. Both other speakers (for L + R) can then in return be plugged in directly in the additional Powerlink outputs of the Beolab 2.
Connecting passive speakers
Passive speakers cannot be connected to the Multiplay directly – but via an additional amplifier like e.g a Beolink Passive this is possible without problems.
SIMPLE INSTALLATION
Plug & Play
The installation of the Powerlink-Switch is foolproof – simply plug together, maybe if required turn an optional switch and the device is ready for use after a few seconds.
Complete Control
In general the installation is already complete after that. Nevertheless the device offers optional the possibility to adjust the volume of the connected devices to each other via control dials. If you want, you even can configure the particular backlash time for untriggered audio signals (intelligent signal detection).
OPERATING MODE
Automatic source management with priority circuit
The almando Powerlink-Switch is not only a Powerlink converter, but at the same time an automatic source management, too. For handling one of the connected devices you therefore need only the particular remote control and in this way can control the volume. The connected sources have different priorities. If several sources are active, always INPUT 1 (Powerlink) is preferred to INPUT 2 (optional signal detection or triggered, e.g. Powerlink).
Which sources can be connected?
Various input devices can be connected to the Powerlink-Switch. The only requirement is that you have to possess a volume controlled output (e.g. B&O devices, Apple Airport Express, SONOS Connect, Loewe television, MP3 player, DVB receiver, etc.).With some television sets by Samsung, Sharp, Panasonic, Sony, Toshiba, LG, etc. the audio output via Cinch-sockets is volume controlled, respectively can be adjusted in that way via the menu of the television. If this is not possible with the television most devices also have a headset output – and this is almost always volume controlled.
Automatic source activation via intelligent signal detection
As soon as a signal touches, it is detected by the almando Powerlink-Switch and converted into a Powerlink signal with switching voltage. If the source fails to send a signal (e.g. if it is turned mute or switched off) an intelligent circuit provides a backlash of ca. two minutes – only then the Powerlink signal is turned off and the B&O speakers change to standby. This is necessary e.g. for longer speech pauses within audio books, and accordingly, gives you enough time to select the next titles for play back from your music archive.
Automatic source activation via external trigger voltage
If the connected source itself possesses a trigger voltage (e.g. B&O devices or Loewe television with trigger voltage) then it has the great advantage that you don't have to wait for the otherwise necessary backlash time in order to change the sources. At Input 1 this function is standard – at input 2 this function can be activated by a DIP switch. This kind of source activation has to be preferred to the otherwise typically used signal detection.
SIGNALS
Powerlink-Signals
INPUT 1, INPUT 2 (in case of Trigger ON) and OUTPUT are 100% B&O compatible
Remote Activation of INPUT 2
